August 6 – POTATO PLANTER
Farmers and producers use all sorts of equipment to plant crops so they can make enough food to feed themselves and their community. Glenn Bascom is pictured here in 1920 in his potato field at Gray Dawn Farm and in 1949 with a potato planter, which gets hooked up to his tractor.
Sullivan and Cheshire County share small farm equipment for rent to producers in both counties. Much of the equipment is to facilitate no-till farming, increase soil health, and help out small vegetable producers.
