Flashback Friday! Belknap County Conservation Districts celebrates 75 years!
9 is the number of farms that have been in the same family between the years of 1916 and 2016!
Abbott Farm, in Sanbornton and Tilton; Auger Farm and Shadgaee Farm in Sanbornton; Bolduc Farm and Weeks Farm in Gilford; Huckins Farm in New Hampton; Picnic Rock Farms (formerly Longridge Farm) in Meredith; Potter Farm and the Price Farm in Gilmanton Iron Works.
Over its 75 years the Belknap County Conservation District has played a part in efforts made by many of these family owned farms to implement agricultural practices that enhance production and conserve resources benefiting not only the family but their community for generations to come.
The above mentioned are by no means the only notable and well known conservation minded farms in Belknap County. We applaud all our farmers, whether old hands or new, and the work they do to nourish our communities is so many ways.
Our factual resource is the book ‘Our Farming Heritage Lives On; celebrating 100 years of New Hampshire Farm Bureau Federation 1916 -2016’ put out by the Associated Women f the New Hampshire Farm Bureau Federation in 2016.
