In 1965, Grafton County Soil Conservation District Supervisors demonstrated their new land smoothing equipment. The scraper is used for deep cuts and fills and the land plane smooths it all out. Many farmers stopped by Maurice Naylor’s farm on Benton Flats to watch and try their hand at operating the equipment. Some of them were next in line to rent it. Much of the farmland in the Connecticut River Valley has been smoothed through use of District equipment.
Conservation Districts are still making new farming equipment available for producers. A cooperating farmer demonstrates the use of the equipment and others are able to rent the equipment from the district.
